Front-Wheel Drive · Lowest Load Floor

Ram ProMaster Cargo Vans for Business in Maine

The ProMaster is the van for work that happens in and out of the back all day. Front-wheel drive puts the load floor 21 inches off the ground — you step in rather than climb, a few hundred times a week.

We stock Tradesman work spec, cargo vans and cutaway chassis, at Quirk Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Bangor and across the group.

What it means for your business

Front-wheel drive is the whole argument

No driveshaft running under the cargo floor means the floor sits lower and flatter — 21 inches, the lowest in the class. Over a working year that is thousands of easier lifts and a lower step for anyone in and out of the back all day. It also pulls rather than pushes when loaded, which matters on a wet Maine job site, and turns in 36 feet for tight streets and dooryards.

Choose the roof by whether you work inside it

Cargo height runs 66 inches on the standard roof, 77 on the high roof and 86 on the super high. If the van is a rolling store room you load and leave, standard is fine. If a technician stands up in it to build, pick or service, the high roof pays for itself in a week of not stooping.

It is sized around pallets, not around a brochure

Cargo width reaches 75 inches, the side door opens 49 inches, and the rear doors swing 260 degrees to a 60-inch opening. That combination takes a full-size pallet through the side and lets a forklift work the back. Cargo length runs 8 feet on the 1500 up to 13 feet on the 3500, so the model number is really a length decision.

Cargo van or cutaway — two different purchases

The cargo van is finished: load it, shelve it, work. The cutaway is a chassis for a box or service body, the same thinking as an Express Cutaway. Buy the van when the work fits inside it, the cutaway when you need a body built around the work. We stock both.

Powertrain & capability

Manufacturer figures for a properly equipped truck. Your specific build will rate differently — confirm the ratings on the unit before you buy a trailer or a body to match it.

Which trim for the work

Trim on a work truck is a budget decision, not a luxury one. What we actually have on the ground is marked.

Tradesman 4 in stock

The work spec and what we stock. Uconnect 5, steel wheels, the safety suite — nothing you pay for and never use.

SLT

Adds heated power mirrors, LED lamps and a better passenger seat. Worth it when a driver lives in the van.

SLT+

Larger Uconnect with navigation and more seat adjustment. The comfort end of a work van.

Bodies that go on this chassis

The low flat floor and square walls make the cargo van straightforward to shelve and rack, and the cutaway takes a box or service body the same way an Express Cutaway does. Tell the fleet team the trade and they will spec the interior with it.

Questions businesses actually ask

Why front-wheel drive on a work van?

It removes the driveshaft from under the cargo floor, which is how the ProMaster gets a 21-inch load floor — the lowest in the class. Lower step in and out, lower lift for everything you load, and the van pulls rather than pushes when it is heavy. It also turns in 36 feet, which matters more than most spec-sheet numbers on a city route.

Which roof height do I need?

Cargo height is 66 inches standard, 77 on the high roof and 86 on the super high. The question is whether anyone works inside the van or just loads it. If a technician is standing up in there to pick parts or build, the high roof repays itself quickly. If it is a rolling store room, standard is fine and cheaper.

Will a pallet fit?

Yes — cargo width runs to 75 inches and the sliding side door opens 49 inches, which is sized for a full-size pallet. The rear doors swing to 260 degrees and fold nearly flat against the van for a 60-inch opening, so a forklift can work the back.

Do I need a commercial licence to drive one?

For the ratings these vans carry, a standard driver’s licence covers it in normal use. Licensing depends on gross weight and how the vehicle is used, so if you are adding a heavy body to a cutaway or running close to the ratings, confirm with us and with the state before you buy.

What is the difference between the cargo van and the cutaway?

The cargo van is a finished van you load and shelve. The cutaway is a cab and frame for an upfitter to mount a box or service body on. Same idea as the Chevrolet Express Cutaway — buy the van when the work fits inside it, the cutaway when you need a body built around it.
