GMC Sierra 2500HD Work Trucks in Maine

Mechanically the Sierra 2500HD and the Silverado 2500HD are the same truck: the same 6.6L gas V8, the same Duramax turbo-diesel, the same Allison 10-speed, the same heavy-duty platform. What you are choosing between is the cab you sit in and the tailgate you use.

Eleven on the ground, eight of them at Quirk GMC Rockland, and seven currently marked down — the heaviest concentration of discounts on any model we list. Six are Duramax, five are gas.

Every unit counted here is on the ground today. We don’t list in-transit or factory-ordered vehicles on this website. Ask the fleet team what’s inbound.

Three GMC Sierra HD pickups in AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate trim

What it means for your business

Same truck underneath. Buy the one you want to sit in

GMC and Chevrolet publish identical powertrain figures for these: 401 hp and 464 lb-ft from the 6.6L gas V8, 470 hp and 975 lb-ft from the Duramax, both through the Allison 10-speed. Nothing about the work changes. The honest way to choose is the cab, the interior and the badge in front of a customer — and whether a Rockland pickup suits you better than a Bangor or Portland one.

Our Sierras are the dressed-up ones. Our Silverados are the work ones

This is the useful difference, and it is about our lot rather than the trucks. Of eleven Sierras, only two are Pro — the fleet trim — and the rest are SLE, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate. The Silverado 2500HD, by contrast, is fifteen Work Truck and twelve Custom out of fifty-four. So if you want a bare three-quarter-ton to work and not think about, go to the Silverado. If one person drives this truck all day, or it turns up at customers’ premises, the Sierra is where our nicer HDs live.

Seven of eleven are marked down

The highest proportion of any model on this site. That is partly the trim mix — premium HD pickups sit longer than work trucks do — which is good news if a well-equipped truck was what you wanted anyway. Prices run from $50,535 for a new Pro up to $93,680 for a Denali Ultimate, with three used units starting at $46,990.

The MultiPro tailgate is the one feature the Silverado does not have

GMC’s six-function tailgate is the genuine hardware difference between these trucks: an inner gate that folds into a step, a load stop, and a work surface. On a truck that gets loaded and unloaded all day it is more useful than it sounds in a brochure, and it is the one thing a Silverado cannot be optioned into.

Mind which towing number you are reading

GMC advertises up to 36,000 lbs for Sierra HD, and that figure is a 3500HD. Their own FAQ gives the 2500HD numbers plainly: 22,390 lbs of towing and 4,049 lbs of payload. The Silverado 2500HD page carries the same caveat because it is the same marketing number for the same platform. And if 4,049 lbs is tight for what you load, a 2500HD is the wrong truck — the Sierra 3500HD carries 7,290.

Powertrain & capability

Manufacturer figures for a properly equipped truck. Your specific build will rate differently — confirm the ratings on the unit before you buy a trailer or a body to match it.

Engines

6.6L V8 gas
401 hp · 464 lb-ft
Standard. Five of our eleven. Cheaper to buy and to service, and the sensible pick when the truck hauls more than it tows.
Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8
470 hp · 975 lb-ft
Six of our eleven. Worth the premium if you tow heavy most days; hard to justify if you do not.
Transmission
10-speed Allison automatic
With both engines — identical to the Silverado 2500HD.

Hauling & towing

Pro is the fleet trim. We stock two of them; the other nine are higher.
Starting MSRP
Pro from $47,300
GMC’s 2026 figure. AT4 from $72,500, Denali from $75,200, Denali Ultimate from $94,200.
Max towing
22,390 lbs
GMC’s 2500HD figure. The 36,000 lbs in Sierra HD advertising is a 3500HD and does not apply here.
Max payload

The 3500HD carries 7,290 — nearly double. If the truck runs loaded most days, that gap is the whole argument for stepping up.

Which trim for the work

Trim on a work truck is a budget decision, not a luxury one. What we actually have on the ground is marked.

The fleet trim and the direct equivalent of a Silverado Work Truck. Two of ours, and the right choice if the truck is a tool rather than an office.

A step up in cabin without leaving sensible money behind. Reasonable when one person is assigned to the truck.

Leather appointments and more technology. The usual middle ground for an owner-operator.

AT4 / AT4X 2 in stock

Off-road suspension, skid plates and, on the AT4X, a factory lift with DSSV dampers and 35-inch tyres. Bought for rough access as much as for looks — worth it on a site truck, wasted on a highway one.

Denali / Denali Ultimate 2 in stock

The top of the range, with the full HD capability underneath. Four of ours. Defensible when the truck doubles as the vehicle you meet customers in.

Bodies that go on this chassis

None of our Sierras currently carries a body, which fits the trim mix — these are pickups bought to be driven rather than bodied. A plow or a dump insert is straightforward on a 2500HD; if the plan is a service body or a flatbed from the start, the Silverado 3500HD and the chassis cabs are the better chassis and we stock those bodied. Tell the fleet team what is going on the truck and they will point you at the right one.

Questions businesses actually ask

What is actually different between a Sierra 2500HD and a Silverado 2500HD?

Mechanically, nothing that matters: GMC and Chevrolet publish the same 401 hp / 464 lb-ft gas V8, the same 470 hp / 975 lb-ft Duramax and the same Allison 10-speed on the same platform. The differences are the cab, the interior, the styling and GMC’s MultiPro tailgate, which the Silverado does not offer. Choose on the cab and on which of our stores has the truck you want.

Which should I buy from you — the Sierra or the Silverado?

It depends what you want the truck to be. Our Silverado 2500HD stock is work-first: fifteen Work Truck and twelve Custom out of fifty-four. Our Sierra stock is the opposite — only two Pro out of eleven, the rest SLE and up. So for a bare working three-quarter-ton, the Silverado; for a well-equipped truck someone lives in or meets customers from, the Sierra.

Why does GMC say 36,000 lbs?

Because that is the maximum for the whole Sierra HD range and it belongs to the 3500HD. GMC’s own FAQ gives the 2500HD figures: 22,390 lbs of towing and 4,049 lbs of payload. The Silverado 2500HD page carries the same caveat, because it is the same number for the same platform. Ask for the ratings on the specific truck — the doorjamb label is what counts.

Gas or Duramax?

The 6.6L gas V8 is the cheaper truck to buy and to maintain and is plenty for hauling and plowing. The Duramax earns its premium if you tow heavy most days. We have five gas and six diesel, so both are on the ground rather than you being talked into whichever we happen to have.

What do you have in stock?

Eleven — eight at Quirk GMC Rockland, two at Quirk Chevrolet Rockland and one used at Cars By Us Bangor. Six Duramax, five gas, from $46,990 used and $50,535 new, up to a $93,680 Denali Ultimate. Seven of the eleven are currently marked down.

Can I put a plow on it?

Yes, and in Maine that is a common reason to buy one. Plow prep availability varies by cab, drivetrain and engine, and the plow weight comes out of your payload before anything else does, so tell the fleet team which plow you run and they will confirm it against the specific build.

Tell us what the truck has to do

What you carry, what you tow, whether a body or a plow is going on it — that decides the build. The commercial team specs it, quotes multiple units, and handles factory fleet ordering.
