Cummins Torque & Standard Plow Prep

Ram 2500 Work Trucks for Business in Maine

The Ram 2500 is what a lot of Maine trades end up in when the truck has to carry weight all week and push snow all winter — and it is the one HD pickup that leaves the factory already wired for a plow.

Most of what we stock is Tradesman, the work spec, at Quirk Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Bangor and Belfast. Gas or Cummins, off the lot or ordered to your build, with a service body or dump coordinated before delivery.

Every unit counted here is on the ground today. We don’t list in-transit or factory-ordered vehicles on this website. Ask the fleet team what’s inbound.

What it means for your business

Snowplow prep is standard, not an option box

Every 2500 comes with snowplow prep from the factory — a 220-amp alternator and the plow wiring already run. In Maine that matters more than it sounds: on trucks where plow prep is optional, missing it means an aftermarket alternator and a wiring job before the truck can push anything. Here it is simply there, on the Tradesman as much as the Laramie.

The gas truck carries more than the diesel

This surprises people and it is worth getting right: maximum payload is 3,930 lbs on gas versus 3,600 lbs on the Cummins. The diesel engine weighs several hundred pounds, and that weight comes straight out of what you can put in the bed. If your work is carrying — tools, material, a service body — the cheaper gas truck is also the one with more capacity. The Cummins is for pulling, not for hauling.

Buy the Cummins for sustained towing, not for bragging

With 1,075 lb-ft and 20,000 lbs of towing, the High-Output Cummins is the right engine if you pull equipment trailers regularly and at weight. If you tow a few times a month, the HEMI tows 17,750 lbs, costs less to buy and less to service, and gives back the payload the diesel takes. Run the math on your actual week rather than your worst day.

Tradesman is the fleet spec

Tradesman is most of what we stock, and it is the right buy when the truck is a tool: vinyl floors you can hose out, the cheapest trim to repair, and the one that makes sense under a service body. Step up only where a crew lives in the truck all day.

Which trim for the work

Trim on a work truck is a budget decision, not a luxury one. What we actually have on the ground is marked.

Tradesman 11 in stock

The work spec and most of our stock. Buy this one when a body is going on or the truck is a tool.

Big Horn 2 in stock

A Tradesman a crew will not grumble about — comfort without paying for a luxury interior.

Black Express 4 in stock

Appearance package on a working truck. Popular where the truck is also the business card.

Laramie 4 in stock

Owner and principal trucks. Same capability underneath, money spent on the cabin.

Base

Stripped fleet units when they turn up. Cheapest way into a 2500 if the spec matches your work.

Bodies that go on this chassis

The 2500 is a standard chassis for pickup-mounted service, landscape and flatbed bodies — Knapheide, Reading and DuraMag all build for it. Settle the body before you order the truck, because it decides the cab and bed you want under it.

Questions businesses actually ask

Does the Ram 2500 come ready for a plow?

Yes — snowplow prep is standard, which means a 220-amp alternator and the plow wiring are already in the truck from the factory. You still choose and mount the plow itself, and on 4x4 trucks a transfer case skid plate is worth adding, but you are not paying to upgrade the charging system first.

Should I get the Cummins diesel or the HEMI gas?

If you tow heavy most weeks, the Cummins earns it: 1,075 lb-ft and 20,000 lbs. If you mostly carry, the gas truck actually has more payload — 3,930 lbs versus 3,600 — because the diesel engine weighs more, and it costs less to buy and service. Tell us what a normal week looks like and we will point you at the cheaper right answer.

What is the payload of a Ram 2500?

Up to 3,930 lbs on gas and 3,600 lbs on diesel for a properly equipped truck. Your actual build will rate lower — cab, bed, drivetrain and options all come off it, and so does the weight of any body you add. Ask us for the ratings on the specific unit before you commit to a body or a load.

Can I put a service body or dump on it?

Yes. The 2500 is a common chassis for pickup-mounted service bodies, landscape dumps and flatbeds, and we coordinate the upfit so the truck arrives working. Choose the body first — it constrains which cab and bed you should order.
