Single Rear Wheel · Built to Work
Ford Super Duty F-250 Work Trucks in Maine
The F-250 is the Super Duty most Maine trades actually need — enough truck to carry a service body and pull a loaded trailer, without the width and ride penalty of a dually.
Everything we stock is single rear wheel, mostly work-spec, at Quirk Ford in Augusta and Belfast. Gas or Power Stroke diesel, off the lot or ordered to the cab-and-bed combination your upfit requires.
Every unit counted here is on the ground today. We don’t list in-transit or factory-ordered vehicles on this website. Ask the fleet team what’s inbound.
What it means for your business
Single rear wheel is the right default — and that is Ford’s own framing
Ford puts it plainly: SRW suits light-to-moderate towing and everyday driving, and it manoeuvres better; DRW is for heavy-duty towing and hauling where stability matters more. For a truck that lives on job sites, parks on residential streets and backs down driveways all winter, SRW is usually the better tool. Step up to a dually when you are routinely at the top of the weight range, not because the spec sheet looks tougher.
Pro Power Onboard can replace the generator
Up to 2 kW of power from outlets in the bed. That runs job-site tools, chargers and lights straight off the truck, which means one less generator to buy, fuel, maintain and lift in and out every morning. If your crew currently throws a generator in the back, price that out of the job before you compare trucks.
Gas is standard on every trim; diesel is a towing decision
The 7.3L V8 gas engine makes 420 hp and 445 lb-ft and is standard right across the F-250 range. The 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke adds 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft, and the cost difference only pays back if you tow heavy and often. Two thirds of what we stock is gas, which reflects how most of this work actually goes.
Pick the cab and bed for the body, not the crew
Regular Cab comes with an 8-foot bed; SuperCab and Crew Cab take a 6.75 or 8-foot bed. Service bodies, dumps and flatbeds are built around specific cab-to-axle dimensions, so the combination you order decides what can be mounted later. Settle the upfit first — it is far cheaper than discovering the constraint after delivery.
Powertrain & capability
Manufacturer figures for a properly equipped truck. Your specific build will rate differently — confirm the ratings on the unit before you buy a trailer or a body to match it.
Engines
- 7.3L V8 gas
- 420 hp @ 5,350 rpm · 445 lb-ft @ 4,250 rpm
- Standard on every F-250 trim. The volume work-truck engine, and 8 of the 12 we stock.
- 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel
- 500 hp @ 2,600 rpm · 1,200 lb-ft @ 1,600 rpm
- Available on every trim. Worth it for sustained heavy towing, not for hauling weight in the bed.
- Transmission
- TorqShift 10-speed automatic
- With both engines.
Hauling & towing
- Max towing, gas engine
- 22,500 lbs
- Ford’s maximum for the 7.3L across the Super Duty range, properly equipped.
- Towing by hitch type
- 30,000 lbs conventional · 35,000 5th wheel · 40,000 gooseneck
- These are Super Duty LINE maximums — they need the diesel, a gooseneck and the right configuration, and an F-250 SRW rates well below them. Ask for the rating on the actual truck before you buy a trailer.
- Cab & bed combinations
- Regular 8ft · SuperCab 6.75/8ft · Crew 6.75/8ft
- The combination decides which service or dump body will fit.
- Pro Power Onboard
- up to 2 kW
- In-bed outlets. Enough for most job-site tool loads.
Which trim for the work
Trim on a work truck is a budget decision, not a luxury one. What we actually have on the ground is marked.
The fleet and upfit trim, and nearly all of our stock. Buy this when a body is going on and the truck is equipment.
A work truck a crew will spend all day in without complaint. The usual step up from XL.
Owner-operator territory: the truck meets customers and doubles as a daily driver.
Principal trucks. Identical capability underneath — the money goes into the cabin.
Bodies that go on this chassis
The F-250 is one of the most common chassis our upfitters build on — Knapheide, Reading and DuraMag all make service, landscape and flatbed bodies for it. Which one fits depends on the cab and bed you order, so decide the body first.

Where they are
Questions businesses actually ask
Should I get single rear wheel or dual rear wheel?
Ford’s own guidance is that SRW suits light-to-moderate towing and everyday driving and manoeuvres better, while DRW is for heavy-duty towing and hauling where stability matters more. Everything we stock as an F-250 is SRW, which is the right call for most trades. If you are routinely at the top of the weight range, look at an F-350 — we carry those in both SRW and dually.
Thanks — good to know.

How much can an F-250 actually tow?
Less than the headline. The 40,000 lb figure in Ford advertising is a Super Duty line maximum that needs the diesel, a gooseneck hitch and the right configuration. The 7.3L gas engine maxes at 22,500 lbs across the range, and a specific F-250 SRW rates below that depending on cab, drivetrain, axle ratio and options. Send us the stock number and we will give you that truck’s rating.

What is Pro Power Onboard and is it worth it?
Outlets in the bed supplying up to 2 kW, so tools and chargers run off the truck. If your crew currently carries a generator, it is worth pricing the generator — purchase, fuel, servicing and the daily lift in and out — against the option cost before deciding.
Thanks — good to know.

Can I put a service body or dump on it?
Yes, and it is one of the most common chassis our upfitters work with. The cab and bed combination determines which bodies fit, so pick the body first and order the truck around it. We coordinate the build so it arrives ready to work.

Do you have them in stock?
We carry F-250s at Quirk Ford in Augusta and Belfast, mostly work spec, gas and diesel. If nothing on the ground matches what you need, Ford Pro fleet ordering gets the exact configuration — worth doing when the truck will carry a body for a decade.
Thanks — good to know.

What you carry, what you tow, whether a body or a plow is going on it — that decides the build. The commercial team specs it, quotes multiple units, and handles factory fleet ordering.
